About Us
By nature of their locations relative to downtown Cold
Spring, Highway
23 and the Sauk River, each of the four sites presents individual opportunities
for development and play different roles within the city. Links between
the properties and existing landmarks can expand the value of each site,
and build a network of connected amenities within Cold Spring. A proposed
segment of the ROCORI Trail runs along the railroad corridor and leads
to the Glacier Lakes Trail to the west. The proposed trail will link
Cold Spring into other regional trail systems such as the Lake Wobegon
Trail to the north and the Quarry Trail to St. Cloud.
Granite Landing
The opening of the Downtown Campus offers Cold Spring an opportunity
that few other cities have — the
chance to redevelop 28 acres within the downtown along the riverfront.
Presently downtown Cold Spring is a community with a mix of compact,
traditional one to two story buildings lining the main street. The strengths
of the community in terms of location, highway access, and a gateway
location, bode well for redevelopment attractiveness. These elements
will provide the basis for continued success in downtown Cold
Spring.
Goals of the Redevelopment Plan Include:
- Create a viable town center
- Provide a broad range of public infrastructure improvements
- Create
a destination with restaurants, cafes, specialty shops and stores
while promoting an
ambiance that is conducive to dining, shopping, and strolling.
- Create
an attractive and pedestrian-friendly streetscape with sidewalks,
street trees, street lamps, street art, benches and planters.
- Enhance
the public safety and welfare by providing improved community services
- Promote the expansion of the commercial, retail, and job market economies
- Provide attractive, affordable and diverse housing
- Promote and preserve
the history of Cold Spring Granite’s former downtown campus
Redevelopment
Benefits
Positive effects of redevelopment reach far beyond the boundaries
of the project area. Redevelopment efforts improve the community's
image and economic and social climates. The upgrade of the physical
infrastructure improves the appearance and circulation of the project
area. These improvements benefit the community and encourage others to
invest in future development. By providing the framework for progress,
we are attracting a wider range of goods and services to the community.
